The question gets asked constantly and the honest answer is unsatisfying: there is no number. Anyone who gives you one has either not tested it or is selling something.
That is not evasion. It is that the platforms stopped counting IPs years ago, and the thing they count instead has nothing to do with how many accounts share an address.
Why mobile proxies tolerate more in the first place
Mobile carriers use CGNAT - carrier-grade network address translation. Hundreds, sometimes thousands, of real subscribers sit behind one public IP address at the same time. The person next to you on the train is very likely sharing your apparent address right now.
That single fact changes everything about how platforms treat mobile IPs. Blocking one means blocking a large number of genuine paying customers, so they are extremely reluctant to do it. A residential IP usually maps to one household; a datacenter IP maps to nobody at all. A mobile IP maps to a crowd, and there is safety in that crowd.
This is why mobile proxies carry the highest trust of any type, and why they cost more. You are not buying speed. You are buying the platform's reluctance to act.
What actually decides your limit
Account age. The single biggest factor and the one people skip. A six-month-old account with real history absorbs scrutiny that a week-old account cannot. Five aged accounts on one IP is a quieter pattern than two fresh ones.
How hard you drive them. Someone checking two accounts a few times a day is invisible. The same two accounts posting on a schedule, following hundreds of users and running overnight are not. Intensity matters more than count.
Fingerprint separation. If your accounts share an IP and an identical browser fingerprint, you have told the platform they are one person twice over. Separate profiles matter more as account count rises.
Coordination. Accounts that act in concert - same content, same timing, same targets - get caught regardless of infrastructure. This is the pattern detection is actually built for.
Consistency over time. The same account appearing from the same carrier in the same city for months is unremarkable. Jumping countries weekly is not, no matter how clean the IP.
Realistic per-platform guidance
These assume aged accounts, separate browser profiles and human-paced use. Automate hard and every number becomes one.
Instagram, TikTok, Facebook - 1 to 2 accounts. The strictest tier. All three invest heavily in detection, all three correlate device and behavioural signals aggressively, and all three are where most bans happen. Treat two as the ceiling and one as the safe answer.
X, Pinterest, Reddit - 2 to 5 accounts. More permissive in practice, partly because multi-account use is more normalised. Still detectable if the accounts act together.
LinkedIn - 2 to 3 accounts. Aggressive about automation specifically, more relaxed about IP sharing. The thing that gets you caught here is scraping speed, not address reuse.
Ecommerce and marketplaces - varies wildly. Amazon and eBay care far more about payment and shipping signals than IPs. An IP change will not save an account that shares a card with a banned one.
The signals that say stop
Enforcement is rarely sudden. It escalates, and the early stages are visible if you are watching:
CAPTCHAs appearing where they did not before. Phone or email verification on login. Actions that appear to succeed but silently do not take effect - shadow behaviour is a common intermediate state. Connections to that IP getting slower or failing.
Any of those means you are already flagged. The instinct is to push through or rotate the IP; both make it worse. The right move is to reduce activity on that address and let it settle.
Dedicated, shared or rotating

Shared mobile is cheaper and fine for scraping, where each request stands alone. For accounts it is a poor trade: you cannot see what the other users are doing, and their behaviour becomes your problem.

What actually raises the ceiling
Not more IPs. In order of effect: age your accounts before using them properly, give each one a genuinely separate browser profile, keep activity at human pace and human hours, and keep each account on one stable address rather than moving it around.

Do I need an antidetect browser as well?
If you are running more than two accounts on one IP, yes. The IP is one signal among many - canvas, WebGL, fonts, timezone and TLS handshake are all compared too. Identical fingerprints across supposedly separate accounts is a clearer giveaway than a shared address ever was.
Is a dedicated mobile proxy better than a shared one?
